Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio has said access to electricity still remains a challenge in Sierra Leone in terms of reliability and affordability, adding that it will require a more significant commitment than ever before, for the country’s present and future depend on it.
President Bio was speaking at the 2022 Energy Sector Roundtable held at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown.
The President said energy is the engine that powers economies and that the more energy economies have, the more prosperous their people are.
He said lack of energy is Africa’s most critical challenge, with the world’s highest energy poverty, noting that Sierra Leone’s sustainable economic growth and prosperity depend on solving the crisis of energy.
