President Bio, First Lady travel to London to attend King Charles’s Coronation

Sierra Leone State House has confirmed that His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and wife Dr. Fatima Maada Bio have departed Sierra Leone to attend the Coronation ceremony of King Charles and his wife Camilla at Westminster Abbey in London slated for Saturday, 6th May, 2023.

The Buckingham Palace invitation states that President Bio has been invited to attend the Royal coronation ceremony in his capacity as head of state of a Commonwealth member nation.

The last coronation ceremony took place in Britain exactly 70 years ago when Charles’ mother Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne after the death of her father in 1953.

King Charles III ascends to the British throne after the passing of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

His Majesty King Charles III has become head of the Commonwealth, an association of 56 independent countries and 2.5 billion people.

President Bio and First Lady are expected to return home immediately after the coronation ceremony.
