Section 26 of the PWD Act of 2011 gives the commission the mandate to issue adjustments on public buildings in order to be accessible to persons with disability.
Mr. Kortequee added that they will be using the best international practices to look at how accessible public buildings are to PWDs, citing that they will be compiling reports and send to individual establishments that have been audited for them to conduct adjustments for PWDs to be able to access their facilities.
He went on to say that they will be doing follow-up training on their assessments and their recommendations for PWDs to be allowed easy access into public buildings.
“We are going to audit Parliament, Youyi Building, State House and other buildings to see how disable friendly they are,” he said adding that they will be checking if the buildings have ramps and elevators to convey PWD’s into these buildings.
The audit according to him will lasting for two-weeks.
