Riotous conduct lands 3 in jail

The particulars of the offence stated that all the accused were involved in the act of breaching the public order act by throwing missiles, behaved  in a disorderly manner and further igniting a riotous situation, at Sackville Street in the central part of Freetown, on Sunday 19 March 2017.

When the charges were put to the accused persons in the dock, they all pleaded guilty, after which the lead counsel for the accused persons, A. Amara canvassed the Bench for his clients  to be cautioned and discharged, as they were victims of circumstance.

He pleaded with the presiding magistrate to tamper justice with mercy, as they were first time offender of the law, and that his clients had never been charged to court for such offences.

The prosecuting police officer, 11408 Kpulun did not oppose to counsel’s plea of mitigation on behalf of the accused, since they all pleaded guilty to the offences preferred against them.

In his wisdom, Magistrate Albert Moody  cautioned and discharged all accused persons on count three and levied  fines on count one and two in the sum of four hundred and fifty thousand leones, or face five months imprisonment, while  admonishing the accused person to respect law and order.
