Rokel Commercial Bank Plants Trees

Deforestation has been a major issue in the country; and it has caused damage from flooding to landslide and more.

According to Dr. Gilpin the tree planting project in the communities is focused on how the RCB can help mitigate deforestation in the country, citing that they are aware that the government will not be able to do things on their own.

“As a bank, our job is not only to keep money, but to help people around us to live better lives,” Dr. Gilpin said.

The trees when grown-up according to Dr. Gilpin will bring cash crop, timber, oxygen and can even create shelter for animals, adding that RCB does not want to leave a negative legacy for coming generations.

Dr. Gilpin further encouraged the residents to protect the trees as it will help them economically.

Director of Environment Protection Agency Momodu Bah also called on the residents to combat disforestation in order to reduce climate change as part of their own responsibility.

He added that the trees can improve the livelihood of human beings and can also bring income, noting that tress are very important to prevent disasters.

Paramount Chief Alhaji Bai Kompa Bomboli the II of Petifu village Koya Chiefdom Port Loko commended RCB for choosing his chiefdom for their tree planting project, adding that his people will support the project as it is of benefit to their community.

He maintained that his chiefdom will be working towards preventing deforestation.
