The National Day is celebrated annually on October 1st as a commemoration of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
On this day, the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Association collaborated with Global Groups of Company and Atlantic Lumley Hotel to donate to the children at the school premises in Polio Community, Grafton.
Speaking to AYV, the Chairperson of the Sierra Leone China Friendship Association, Onikeh King says the donation to the school is as a result of the relationship between Mariatu Kargbo who’s named after the school and the people of China.
The Managing Director of the Global Groups of Company, Leo Lao encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously in order to develop Sierra Leone.
On her part, the headmistress of the Maria Primary School, Lamrana Jalloh, commended the efforts of Maria Kargbo for supporting the school over the years.
“Mariatu has been supporting our school with learning materials, giving stipend to our staff and for that we’ll ever remain grateful,” says Jalloh.
Abibatu Kamara, the founder and Director of Abitu’s Orphanage Home also expressed thanks to the association and solicited for more support to her children as she is faced with several challenges.
The school authorities further called on the Chinese government and other stakeholders to help them address more challenges in the school as the disabled children face challenges in accessing the road leading to the school and appealed for more learning materials.
