It could be recalled that Dr. Sarah Finda Bendu who had been on bail since December 22nd, 2018 following investigations into massive corruption at the SLMA during her brief tenure, and her husband, have been directly interfering with ACC investigations, manipulating witnesses, attempting to mislead the Commission through interferences with known witnesses and suspects of the Commission and other related obstruction actions.
Their arrests were necessary in order to protect the integrity of the investigation going forward.
The ACC release states that “the ACC thrives on integrity of investigations within the public domain and will not tolerate any tampering of witnesses or investigations by any individual under any circumstances.”
Speaking to AYV Newspaper in his capacity as ACC Public Relations Assistant, Moris Ibrahim Kanteh said Dr. Sarah Finda Bendu is under investigation for misappropriation of over nine hundred million Leones (Le900M) during her brief tenure as Executive Director of the SLMA. He added that she and her husband were arrested and are now in the custody of the ACC, pending further action.
He added that for the fact that the ACC is unhesitant to arrest any and all individuals suspected of corrupt or corrupt practices irrespective of whether the individual belongs to the governing political party or not, means that the ACC under Ben Kaifala is prepared to go the extra mile as long as it succeeds at protecting public funds and prosecuting anyone who misappropriates public funds.
