Marking the formal opening of the session, the Executive chairperson of SHPL who doubles as Chairman of the Resettlement Management committee (RAPManCom) of SHPL – Mr. Patrick Olu Beckley noted in his remarks that the workshop will create a platform for staff of the Company to; Grasp the Overview of the Bumbuna II Project; Understand the various activities or work streams in the implementation of the RAP, Discuss and agree on roles & responsibilities, and IFC Performance Standard 5 requirements, Finalize the Asset Verification Protocol and conduct refresher training on stakeholder engagement and Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM).
Representing the General Manager of SHPL – Mr. Herb Gammons who was out of the country on another function, the Deputy General Manager and Head of Operations Mr., Abu Bakarr Kamara, thanked both the participants and facilitators for ensuring the successful conduct of the workshop and noted that measures are being taken t ensure that the Bumbuna Phase II Project is implemented in line with International standards and best practices and also serve as avenue for job creation for thousands of Sierra Leoneans.
The workshop attracted participants from Kalanthuba, Dasongoia and Diang Chiefdoms and Facilitators from Freetown, the United Kingdom and South Africa.
Almost all of the participants registered their satisfaction and appreciation of the sessions, on the consideration that, all of the objectives and expectations highlighted at the outset of the workshop were achieved to the fullest by the end of the workshop.
It is in no more news that, upon his assumption of office, HE the President Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio, pledged to fully support the implementation of the Bumbuna Phase II project and that his team will take the required practical steps that will ensure the completion of the project within the stipulated time frame.
When completed, the Bumbuna Phase II project will contribute about 143MW to the existing National Grid and assure 80MW of year-round electricity supply.
