Sherbro Alliance Partners meet with 9 Senior Executives

Share

Sherbro Alliance Partners (SAP), an infrastructure development firm spearheading the Sherbro Island City project in Sierra Leone met with nine senior executives from leading private companies involved with the Sustainable Markets Initiative.

Hosted by Lloyd’s, the group discussed partnership and investment opportunities that lie within the sustainable implementation of the project on Sherbro Island.

The Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) was launched by His Majesty King Charles III, when he was Prince of Wales, in 2020 at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos. As the ‘go-to’ global private sector organisation on sustainable transition, the SMI’s power to convene industry leaders, financial services companies, and government officials is key to innovating, accelerating and delivering on a just, sustainable and prosperous future.

This group of international experts and prominent business figures discussed the Sherbro Island City project and how these corporate partnerships can advance SAP’s plans for the development. The goal is to develop a new, environmentally friendly city that is safe, diverse, and appealing to tourists, with a cutting-edge financial hub for businesses – ultimately serving Sherbro Islanders, Sierra Leoneans, the diaspora, and global citizens.

“We are committed to fostering Sierra Leone’s development through the transformation of Sherbro Island, in collaboration with the government of Sierra Leone. The scale of this endeavor requires a collective effort. Our partnerships with industry leaders, such as Octopus Energy and Lloyd’s and hopefully many others within the SMI, allow us to adopt and apply best practices from globally renowned companies,” said Idris Elba and Siaka Stevens, co-founders of SAP.

A focused group of SMI members across healthcare, financial services, asset managers and insurance came together to discuss investment opportunities in Sierra Leone, and among those present are as follows:

Africa investor Group, a Pan-African investment holding company for institutional investors.

Aon, a leading global professional services firm providing a broad range of risk, reinsurance, retirement and health solutions.

AstraZeneca, a global, science-led biopharmaceutical business producing innovative medicines used by millions worldwide.

Bank of America, one of the world’s largest financial institutions.

Barclays, a British multinational universal bank

Lloyd’s, the world’s leading insurance marketplace.

Octopus Energy, one of Europe’s largest investors in renewable energy.

Standard Chartered, a leading international cross-border bank connecting the world’s most dynamic markets.

Tokio Marine Kiln, a leading specialty insurer.

“These collaborations are crucial for realising Sherbro Island’s long-term vision and promoting sustainable development that delivers tangible benefits to the people of Sierra Leone and the broader African continent,” said Elba & Stevens.
