Sierra Leone launches ‘Fuel Integrity System’

Share

Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the National Revenue Authority (NRA) and Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA) have launched the Fuel Integrity System (FIS) at the National Petroleum (NP) terminal at Shell in Freetown.

The Fuel Integrity System is a technological solution designed to deter fuel smuggling, adulteration and tax evasion within the fuel supply chain.

“All petroleum products leaving all depots across Sierra Leone will henceforth be marked before making their way into the market,” announced Mrs Jeneba J. Bangura, the Commissioner General of NRA.

All Petroleum products found unmarked after a period of three months after March 1, 2024 will be considered illegal, leading to NRA taking necessary actions as mandated by law.

The markings will not affect fuel quality, colour, pump price or incur tax liabilities,” emphasised the Commissioner-General.

The Ministry of Finance and NRA expect high level of compliance from the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and other stakeholders in the fuel supply ecosystem. Failure to do so could result in severe penalties and legal consequences.
