Veteran and renowned Sierra Leonean journalist and diplomat, Michael Massaquoi on Sunday 25th July 2021 joined thousands of other activists in London, England to protest for the rights of access to facilities irrespective of social/ethics/sexual background.
According to Mr. Massaquoi, his participation in the protest was to raise awareness of the marginalisation minority communities’ face on a daily basis with a view to extending it to Africa in particular Sierra Leone which remains key to the agenda of any serious minded government of modern times.
He reiterated, “my participation in the protest is to raise awareness of the marginalisation minority communities face on a daily basis with a view to extending it to Africa in particular Sierra Leone. I am sure Sierra Leone will not tolerate this.”
While practicing at home for several newspapers including Standard Times and Concord Times, Mr. Massaquoi was very vocal and fearless as he wrote several articles on social justice, advocated for the disadvantaged and marginalised, the physically-challenged, corruption, democracy and good governance that increased the living standard of the masses thus created impact in the country.
He also worked for the United Nations in Sierra Leone and later the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation before going to England.
While working for both institutions, Mr. Massaquoi wrote concept papers and speeches that were presented at international conferences that helped to transform the image of Sierra Leone as well as attract donor support.
