SLCA Experts  to take Cricket to Primary Schools

Observers believe that this new initiative if introduce at primary level will help to nurture kids to become promising starts and also represent the country at international level while others are anticipating that the game should be part of the extra-curricular activities in various schools  calendar. According to history, Bo School is the first  school from the provinces to take part in the Western Area Inter-Secondary Schools Cricket competition and have won it while Grammar School and High School are the first schools to play cricket.

Prince of Wales school, Magburaka Boys School, Saint Edwards Secondary School and others later joined them.

According to the Chief Executive Officer and also Chairman Board of Directors of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, Francis Trevor Samura said that school cricket has been the main source for cricket development in the country.

Sierra Leone Cricket Association would commence the second phase of the Prince of Wales Secondary School Cricket Development Project.

This phase will facilitate the grading and leveling of the cricket grounds at kingtom by a bulldozer in order to construct a grass turf wicket for the installation of practicing nets, half-way showers for the players, toilets and also a dressing room.

According to the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) between June to July this  year, Sierra Leone Cricket Association  would train junior players to fully participate in its forth coming National Under-13 and 17 league competition  whilst in October the second edition of the  North-West Africa Cricket Council women’s  tournament will commence  in Accra, Ghana.

Francis Trevo Samura said that by the end of October, the Association will be fully prepared to take part in the 2016 edition of the International Cricket Council tournament where different countries participates  and also the Africa Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier for Division 2 Tournament which is expected to start in September.

 

According to analysts it is believe that before the commencement of these competitions SLCA would have completed their secretariat at Kingtom.
