SLP Brace against Corruption

Even though the statistics looks gloomy for police institutions in Africa, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) made significant progress in the fight against corruption or dealing with corruption related issues, internally.

It can be recalled that previous Afro Barometer reports had consistently rated the SLP as the most corrupt institution in Sierra Leone. In 2015, the SLP led the country’s corruption index with 64%. Even though there is room for improvement, the situation, as it was known, has changed.

The launched Afro Barometer report puts the SLP at 39% of people who considered the SLP to be corrupt, public clinics at 50%, and bribe for public services in schools at 52%.

In effect, the report shows that the SLP, as an Institution, is fighting corruption within; and as such, no longer the most corrupt institution.
