The announcement was signed by the General Manager National Petroleum (NP) Sierra Leone, the Executive Chairman, Petroleum Regulatory Agency, Baluwa Koroma, the Managing Direxctor Total (SL) Limited, the Chief Director & Professional Head in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Managing Director LeonOil Company Limited and the Financial Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.
However, this latest reduction in the price of petroleum products has generated debate among the general public about whether this would also affect downwards the price of transportation and basic commodities.
It could be recalled that in his New Year’s Day message, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio said that 2019 will be a year of hope. True to his words, a week after his message, President Bio’s Government reduced the prices of petroleum products.
The move has been commended widely by ordinary people because it will start to improve their conditions of living.
The myth that when prices go up they never come down has once again been broken by President Bio. In nine months, President Bio has not only increased salary, reduced taxes but he has now reduced the prices of petroleum products.
