The compensation was paid to six family members across the hill side bye pass roads of Black Hall Road in Freetown at a compensation ceremony held at the Atlantic Hall, Siaka Stevens Stadium.
With transparency as a key instrument in human undertakings, the event was well witnessed with representatives from civil society activists, Office of National Security, Ministry of Works, Housing and Infrastructure, Ministry of Justice and Sierra Leone Roads Authority personnel’s dominating the ceremony.
Several representatives made relevance submissions during the ceremony and the representative Sierra Leone Roads Authority, Engineer Lauretta Dumbuya  admonished the beneficiaries to be appreciative of whatsoever little they received from the government as compensation, noting that with the developmental benefit that is waiting to be derived from the roads, she added that it would be of direct benefit not to the government but them as residents.
 She noted that the payment for the hill side bye-pass roads was funded by the government of Sierra Leone. The residents will also be relocated Yams Farm, the outskirt of Freetown where the government as secured for each family head. Â
He however called on them to put forward whatsoever that they encounter as they are always ready to work hand in glove with them.
Philip Lansana is the National Coordinator, Road for Development- Sierra Leone, he said road construction is a key aspect of development and called on the residents to be vigilant in making sure that the roads are well monitored and for them to report any incident that has to do with the up keeping of the roads to the authority in the country.
Receiving the compensation, several beneficiaries expressed gratitude on the good strides of the president, while most of them noted that since they were born they have never witnessed such kind of ceremony.
The compensation was funded by the World Bank, African Development Bank, International Monetary Fund and other organizations through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
The Government of Sierra Leone has taken another important step towards the construction of adequate roads for the free movement of people from various locations across the country.
Road construction according to experts is a key aspect of development, and Sierra Leone in that vein has within a year or two witnessed the rapid construction of roads from across the length and breadth of the country.
Sierra Leone Roads Authority has compensated residents at Bottom Mango, Signal Hill Section, Freetown Lumley road off spur Road, widening of Jomo Kenyatta Road, Hill Cut Road, Choithram Hospital, Gbendembu-Femi Turner Drive, and Sussex Bridge; all in the Western Rural and Urban respectively.
At a similar ceremony recently, National Coordinator, Road for Development, Philip Lansana said, road construction is a key aspect of development, and call on the residents to be vigilant in making sure that the roads are well monitored since it is for the development of all.
In his submission while preparing the compensation team, Joyce Nafat Bangura admonished the beneficiaries to use the compensation in the rights, and noting that since they have conducted the payment the contractor would not inform them when the demolition exerciser would commenced.
Receiving the compensation, several beneficiaries expressed gratitude on the good strides of the president, While most of them stating that since inception of road construction in the country, they have never witnessed government compensating people for the usage of the properties for development.
In as much as the government through the Sierra Leone Roads Authority has played their own part of the agreement, the crucial thing now is for the affected residents to embrace the development.
