The presentation was done in Mercury’s regional head office of Bo City on the 8th February, 2018 by the branch manager. The presentation attracted observers ranging from the media, the police and ordinary members of the public.
Presenting the whopping amount, Bo branch manager Mahmoud Steven dilated a little on the misconceptions about whether Mercury pays its valued customers the money they win. He said the payment made to the twenty-six years old student is a clear manifestation that Mercury has the capacity to pay every winner and that Mercury has always paid its winners.
“Mercury has not only shown commitment in paying its customers but has been a 100% tax compliant company in Sierra Leone. We deduct 20% on winnings above Le10 million and 10% on winnings below Le10 million and pay to the National Revenue Authority on behalf of our winning customers,” he informed his audience.
He went on to say: “Let me use this platform to assure the public that as a company we shall always continue to provide unrivaled and unwavering services to our valued customers. For us in Mercury, our customers are always assured of better quality and efficient service.”
Receiving the amount, the 26 years old man, who decided not to reveal his real identity, exhibited an uncontrolled emotion citing that winning such a life-changing amount is unimaginable. He said he was among those who had held the belief that winning such an amount cannot be a reality with Mercury International.
“I was one person who before now had a perception that all the winnings aired on radio and TV stations were not genuine. Today that perception has changed permanently. I will now serve as an ambassador for Mercury and I will help propagate Mercury within my locality. I am extremely excited that God has destined me to win this money. I’m not better than others but I believe it is my turn today and it could be someone else’s tomorrow,” he said with a broad smile.
When asked what he will do with the money, he replied that as a student, he intends continuing his education and exploring business opportunities.
