The Sierra Leone Police Wives Association (SLPWA) has championed the national campaign against violence nationwide, adding credence to the calls of a peaceful conduct of the 2023 elections.
President of SLPWA, Mrs. Maltida Doris Sellu said it was time for young people and women to say it in the face of politicians who always come around to use them for violence during electioneering period that enough was enough.
She said: “Have you ever seen their children taking the lead in violence? The answer is no. Their children are staying abroad while they come here using you for their selfish benefit”.
She reminded the women and young people that no politician would come forward to stand in their defense when they are in controversy with the law and got arrested.
She also kicked against the targeting of Police officers, noting that currently most family member in the country is encouraging relatives or friends to be recruited into the police force.
“In the ongoing police recruitment, most family want a relative or friend to be recruited, assuming yesterday you have killed a police and tomorrow others also want to kill your own relative that has become a police” she said and therefore appealed that the police should be seen as members of the society and not enemy.
Power, she said comes from God and therefore urged them to go home and listen to the results through radio after casting their votes on elections day.
Other speakers, including paramount chiefs, chiefdom speakers, drivers’ union representatives, commercial bikes riders, traders’ union and local policing partnership boards pledged support to the ‘no violence’ campaign and assured that their communities would maintain the peace and tranquility before, during and after elections.
