Presenting the Bill for debate to the Members of Parliament, Mr. Koroma said according to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary, revised tenth edition defines safe as protection from or not exposed to danger or risk, not likely to be harmed or lost.
He said everybody is aware of the dangers on the roads stating that Freetown and the major provincial cities including Makeni, Bo, and Kenema have experienced high volumes of traffic through a range of motor vehicles, motor cycle and many pedestrians who have to navigate their way through the heavy traffic.
Mr. Koroma said the renaming of Traffic Wardens to Road Safety Corps will not only change public perceptions of the professional body, but it will also be matched with the training they received in accident prevention and reporting and first aid techniques where accidents do occur.
Debating the Bill, Hon. Jusufu B. Mansaray said as they about to approve the Bill, let it go with a good meaning stating that tickets must be placed on the dash board of defaulters immediately they commit a traffic crime not at the time of licensing then one is informed that he/she have to pay for ticket.
Among other contributions made, Members of Parliament unanimously approve the Bill within a short time even when Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo raised a point that without a parent Act, “we will not be doing justice to the Bill”.
He was stoutly overruled by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Chernor Bah.
