While he was addressing the Executive Director of the board, Fatmata Clair Carlton Hancils at their office on Guma Building, the Secretary General of the Council of Tribal Heads, Chief Mathew Younge said the board should inform them whenever any released prisoners agree to go back to the provinces so that they in turn would put them in the hands of their sub-chiefs.
“Our sub-chiefs will take them directly to the paramount chief in the chiefdom where he comes from so that they will not stop half way and come back,” he went on. The chief furthered that a lot of sensitization should be done so that the public will not think that the presence of the board is an opportunity for them to break the law.
The chiefs also advised that repatriating the prisoners should be by way of memorandum. This, according to him, is for the board to write a letter that would be given to the prisoners which they would in turn hand over to the chiefs for identification.
In addition, he asked that they as tribal heads get a list of the released prisoners so that they would be able to receive the prisoners and ask that the community people accept them.
The Executive Director said they as a board will start working with chiefs in the entire country so that they would begin to hold a common meeting.
She concluded by stating that, “If we are able to handle the flow of those coming out of prison, we will lessen the crime rate in the long run”.
