In commemoration of Columbus Day, a significant U.S. holiday, the U.S. Embassy in Freetown was closed for official business on October 9, 2023.
The closure was part of the nation’s observance of the historical significance of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas.
Embassy services, including visa applications and consular affairs, was temporarily halted for the day. However, citizens in need of emergency assistance were advised to contact the embassy through its emergency hotline.
“The U.S. Embassy is be closed for official business today October 09 in honor of Columbus Day – U.S. Holiday. The Embassy will resume official business tomorrow October 10,” the Embassy stated in a post shared on their social media handles,” a press statement informed.
