U.S, U.K Congratulate Salone’s Democracy

Ambassador Maria E. Brewer like High Commissioner Guy Warrington congratulated the government and people of Sierra Leone for what they described as their effort and commitment towards building and growing the country’s democracy.

They both agreed that Sierra Leone’s democracy is moving towards the right direction despite there is room for more development. The coming March 7 elections financed by the Government of Sierra Leone and the perfect organization of country’s past first ever presidential debate are few of the signs of a good democracy highlighted by the diplomats.

They further used the opportunity to assure the Government and people of Sierra Leone that their respective governments will continue to work with Sierra Leone and its people to continue to help develop the country’s democracy.

Maria E. Brewer is the U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone. She most recently served as Deputy Director of the Career Development and Assignments division of the Department of State’s Bureau of Human Resources (2016-2017).  Prior to that position, she was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US. Embassy in Nigeria (2013-2016).  Previously she served as: Deputy Executive Director of the Bureau of African Affairs; Management Officer in Islamabad, Pakistan; in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and in Mumbai, India.  She has also served as a Special Assistant for the Bureau of Administration and the Under Secretary for Management, and served in the Office of Allowances.  She began her Foreign Service career in Lagos, Nigeria, and served her second tour in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

In 2010, Maria received a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy at the National Defense University’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces.  She holds a B.A. in Spanish and International Economics from Valparaiso University in Indiana.  She is married with one daughter.

Guy Warrington is British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, succeeding Peter West. Mr. Warrington took up his appointment in August 2016. The High Commissioner is the UK government’s representative in a Commonwealth nation. They are responsible for the direction and work of the High Commission and its Deputy High Commissions and/or Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
