Presidential Candidate for the United Democratic Movement (UDM) Party, Mohamed Sowa Turay expressed dissatisfaction on the several attacks targeting the work of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) as it prepares for the general elections on 24 June.

He called on colleague politicians to refrain from such acts.

He said: “We at the UDM believe that the EC-SL and other Elections Management Bodies (EMBs) are working assiduously to conduct an election that would be peaceful, transparent and credible at the end.

“Throwing spanners at the work of the EC-SL at this moment would only create room for questioning the outcome of the process. It is on this note, that I am calling on all peace-loving Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad to refrain from making utterances that would not only undermine the electoral process but subsequently subject the state to chaos and insecurity.

“Let us use concerted effort as political party stakeholders to support the work of the EC-SL with a view to ensuring that they conduct a peaceful and credible elections for all and sundry”.

He further appealed to fellow politicians to get their supporters to embrace peace and resist any form of violence in the days leading to the elections and even after the process.
