Alhaji Musa Tarawally is a member of the Trust. He went on to inform his audience that many people suffered from devastating floods which left thousands homeless. He added that these unfortunate people need help to restart their lives.
“I spoke with President Bio about this and he supported my initiative. But because he had a cabinet meeting he was unable to make it to this ceremony. I pray that God direct the President and the people who have supported this donation. Today we are working with the people of Wellington and Kanikay. The Trust looked at the ONS list, and they did a community check to indentify all affected family heads. The link between the Trust Fund and I were not involved in the community check. This was because the Trust wanted everything to be transparent, and they carried out their job with great passion. I strongly believe that what God has designed for you, you will have it,” Alhaji Tarawally told his audience.
He went on to say this is not the first time this organization has been supporting people in Sierra Leone. He added that the Ummah Welfare Trust has in the past supported victims of the mudslides; helped with construction of a mosque, and helped children with scholarship among other things.
According to Alhaji Tarawally, since the Trust started carrying out activities in Sierra Leone, they have invested a lot and have positively impacted on the lives people in various forms worth over 5 million US Dollars.
“Today the affected people of Wellington and Kanikay will receive two million Leones (Le2M) each as their package. And we have more than seven hundred affected people from these two communities. On Sunday victims from Tombo and Race Course will receive their own package which will be more than that received by the Wellington and Kanikay victims because they suffered more damage,” Alhaji Tarawally maintained. He added that he considers this gesture as his own contribution to support the people of Sierra Leone.
Isata Sesay, a beneficiary expressed her thanks to the Trust for supporting families affected by the flood disaster. She also thanked God Almighty for her life and her child as they made it out of the flood. “Even though what I have received will not cover all I lost to the flood, I am happy and grateful,” she said. Samuel Moseray another affected person and also a private security officer said he is happy to receive the package and that he appreciates and will use the money to recover some of his lost properties.
Several other beneficiaries spoke of their appreciation and thanked the Trust and alhaji Musa Tarawally for the gesture.
