Sheku Kamara, Hawa Yokie, Fatmata Jalloh and Andrew Norman were this year’s winners of the National Youth Innovative Awards.
Addressing awardees at the auspicious program, the Minister of Youth Affairs Mohamed Orman Bangura said: “Innovation can be used to solve most of the problems affecting youth in Sierra Leone.”
He went on to say that the Ministry of Youth Affairs established the Youth Support Fund to support youth projects across the country.
The United Nation’s Resident Coordinator Sunil Saigal said: “Working with young people with positive change for societal benefit is always stimulating.”
He called on partners to help young leaders to develop Sierra Leone with their skills. He assured young innovators that the UNDP Social Good Summit is a yearly program that seeks outstanding young people for innovative heights. Saigal called on innovators to come forward with fresh ideas that will bring development to Sierra Leone.
One of the awardees Andrew Norman who built a 600 watts electric generator told this press that the main reason why he made the generator is because electricity is one of major problems in the provinces. He added that the generator can be used for over 24 hours and with many appliances.
