According to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Action Group on SDGs, Hon. Dauda J.B Kallon, the purpose of the engagement is to promote a dialogue forum pegged on information sharing on how the Sustainable Development Goals work, with the view of relating with MDAs to achieve its objectives. In welcoming the initiative, he praised UNDP and the Leadership of Parliament for their continued support geared towards the integration of SDGs in every sphere of the country’s development.
Presenting an overview on Vision 2030 regarding the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Role of Parliament, Dr. Moses Sichei, Economic Advisor to UNDP spoke on background information relating to the SDGs, including its 17-Goals, the role of Parliament, and its integration in national development. He also called on Parliament and other non-state actors to collaborate for the inclusion of SDGs in our development agenda.
Dr. Sheka Bangura, Director, Central Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) acclaimed the interactive session on SDGs, but noted however the challenges involved in its implementation cognizant of finances.
Edward L. Massaquoi, representing the Sierra Leone Coalition 2030 appreciated the intervention of Parliament and requested for continued collaboration on the implementation process of SDGs.
During the course of the deliberations, MPs welcomed the initiative and called on UNDP for continued support to the Parliamentary Action Group on SDGs to achieve its objectives on integration, facilitation, and oversight to MDAs.
