UNFPA, partners commit to ‘Healthy Family Planning’

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation through the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, UNFPA and Partners, have committed to healthy family Planning 2030.

The signing, which is part of the minister’s transformational health program in the country in terms of family planning and its related items, which may help boost the health sector, was done by the health minister and witnessed by the UNFPA and Partners.

In his brief statement, the Minister stated that they targeted increasing contraceptive prevalence to more than 35% by 2030. This, he explained, will help realize the Demographic Dividends and strengthen human capital development through planned and healthier families.

The minister also disclosed that, he met with the new UNICEF SL country representative, Rudolf Schwenk and he shared with him his vision of a robust healthcare system built on the foundation of universal health coverage following life stages, adding that, they both committed to provide the best medical services for all Sierra Leoneans.

He furthered that, on opportunities for supporting sustainable energy solutions for rural hospitals and primary healthcare units, he had the time to meet and discuss with Pa Lamin Beyai, the country representative for UNDP SL, maintaining that, the cost assessments have been done already and it only remains to identify the sites for installation.
