In the aftermath of the decision by WAEC to withhold the results of some one thousand pupils who took the 2015 West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE), the Fontricia Children’s Foundation is pursuing series of legal options to seek answers from the exams office on behalf of the affected children as to what happened to their results.
The latest of such actions is the letter addressed to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) by the foundation, inviting the anti-graft body to seriously investigate the exams office for organizing questionable international exams.
“These pupils are taking advantage over weak systems and corruption at WAEC and must not suffer alone,” Abdul Fonti, the Executive Director of the Foundation said, adding: “The WAEC staff should also be brought to book for perpetrating and supervising examination malpractices after giving a case-by-case explanation as to which specific examination malpractices each and every one of these pupils are being punished for”.
This letter to the ACC is coming in the wake of an earlier letter sent to the exams office dated 1st February 2016 in which the Foundation requested an explanation from WAEC as to what happened to each and every pupil’s result that was withheld.
Under the Access to Information Act, the exams office is mandated to provide answers to the foundation latest fourteen days (14th February 2016).
As all of this is happening, the exams office remains silence as to why it seized the results of over one thousand Sierra Leonean pupils, while the Fontricia Foundation has vowed to take further steps in the coming days.
