Waste Management plan for Bo, Kenema & Makeni evaluated

The project consultant, Mahmoud Idriss said the evaluation of the waste management project is to look at progress and challenges in the implementation of the project.
He said since the commencement of the project many communities have been provided with adequate dust bins and proper collection mechanisms have also been put in place to ensure that communities are clean.
He also explained that stakeholder’s involvement in the project implementation is crucial and five thematic areas have been identified, which includes problem of waste analysis, description of activities and implementation framework.
The Chief Administrator of the Makeni City Council, William Alpha applauded the initiative as it will help the local councils to professionally handle waste in the districts.
He said waste management is a problem for many local councils, but with the intervention of donors and NGOs they will overcome the challenge.
The Mayor of Bo City Council spoke about the success of waste management in his district as it has helped them collect all the waste in the streets and several youths have also been employed to collect the waste in homes and streets on daily basis for a small fee.
The Mayor of Kenema City Council, Joseph S Kelfala welcomed the extension of the project to his district and said the evaluation of the waste management plan will help them to successfully implement the project.
Welthungerhilfe Waste Technician, Alfred Maada Fobay properly explained about the benefits of sustainable waste management. He also played a short film on the Rwandan efforts to keep their city clean.
