This has raised serious concerns and a public response from various areas in the country to say the least. While some say the alarming rate of water shortage in the country might be the major reason and following the release made by the Guma valley of a sudden shutdown on Tuesday 1st October due to a damage of 18 inches transmission pipe at mambo village Mile 13,Allie Kabba is the communications and outreach person for the Guma Valley water company who has clearly stated the Guma valley is not responsible or to say not the reason for the increase in water sachet prices in the country. This is said was a result of high expenses in production said by these companies that has led to this issue. What might be these high expenses in production remains a question for another day.
Inasmuch as many may still consider the shortage of water regularly in the country a major cause, Allie Kabba stated there are only two big huge pipes which draw water into the capital and for this reason these occurrence may persist because the pipes are old now and are not in very good conditions to say the least. Several attempts in reporting this matter have not ended positive. While many continue to blame the Guma Valley Water Company for this saga, He emphasized the company in doing the best they can to ensure water flows perfectly in the country and the recent release talking on the damaged pipe at Mambo village has been amended and envisages everything will be restored as soon as possible.
It’s no doubt, that in Sierra Leone, people are willing to pay for sachet water for drinking in their homes because pipe borne water has not been too reliable in the big towns and coverage has not been growing beyond the designed areas and as such because water remains a very important liquid for survival one wants it to be accessible at all times. It’s for this reason consumers can not watch and neglect increase in something they so much depend on being inflated.
