He described the 4GLTE launch as a progressive transition from a good CMDA service which became congested due to a number of limitations including the manufacturer’s discontinuation of support to the CDMA infrastructure. He said the 4GLTE network is ten times faster than the CDMA and is more sustainable as it is hooked to the fiber optic cable.
“We are here today to launch a new product from Sierratel – possibly the first of its kind in Sierra Leone.” He said the 4GLTE data service is a standard for high speed wireless communication for mobile services compliant with the GSM technology. Therefore, according to Mr. Kabbah, the service can reach more customers as almost everyone uses smart phones these days.
Mr. Kabbah also catalogued the “significant progress” the company has made since a local management team was put in place …among these, he noted was the establishment of a landline service in the Western Area, cost saving measures, a complete review of the systems and processes of the company and an aggressive business development initiative that has connected several institutions with the fiber optic cable.
He paid tribute to President Ernest Bai Koroma for his great vision to transform Sierratel and commended the Board of Directors, Management and staff of Sierratel for a job well done.
