With over 2000 residents therein; Yeliboya Neglected

This Island which is one of the biggest island in the country according to research is deeply deprived of basic social amenities like health, education, water and sanitation for which the community gradually becoming a grey area in terms of disaster particularly during the raining season.

Pa. Adikalie Bear Bozzum is the Town Chief and Speaker of Samu Chiefdom and he told AYV that during the raining season they hardly sleep whenever they experience heavily rains. He furthered that water is gradually taking over the Island which has made the community very scary for them. The town chief identified the deplorable condition of their health facility, a facility that serves over 15 catchment communities as a major challenge for them in the community having in mind the current bad state of their labour ward, a leaking roof and above all the existing poor sanitation condition that have made the health centre a mockery rather a blessing for the people.

The Nurse In-Charge, Mafereh Kanu explained how difficult it has been for them over the years working under a condition they described as unfriendly to them and the patients. Madam Kanu told AYV that the health centre serving over 15 communities has no water, toilet, a labour ward and many more.

“This is the same situation in Rokai community, the second health Community Health Post in lower Samu after Yeliboya Island and this has contributed to loss of lives of particularly women and children” she stated, while calling on government’s attention to that part of the country.
