The recent firing of the country’s Elected Vice President, Alhaji Samuel Sam-Sumana has prompted many Sierra Leoneans to believe that the President Ernest Bai Koroma has murdered democracy in the country.
Abraham Lincoln, Former President of the United States described democracy as a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
With the aforementioned description of democracy, it is but fitting to say Sierra Leone is playing “playcook” democracy.
Sam-Sumana was elected into office together with his former boss by the people of Sierra Leone.
The recent verdict of the High Court of Sierra Leone sentencing two culprits to death by hanging is another topic altogether. The verdict seems contradicting the principles of human rights (right to life) which is a fundamental tool to achieving democracy in the country.
The President is the head that carries the crown and every governance deficiency falls back on his shoulder.
