In one of the activities held to mark the 15th anniversary of one of the leading hospitality business in the provinces, the management of Wusum hotel took bundles of smiles to persons with disabilities housed at the POPDA camp in Magbenteh in the outskirt of Makeni Northern Sierra Leone.
General Manager of Wusum Hotel, Cyril R. Macauley, said the visit to the camp was a roll-out of the vision of the proprietor and founder late Dr. Vincent Lamin Kanu which seeks to give smiles to the needy through charity.
He said the hotel offers services to privileged and non-privileged persons, privileged he explained are those who have what it takes to utilize their services whilst the non-privileged are those who benefit from donations, scholarships, and job opportunities offered by them.
Cyril noted that the charity to POPDA camp is one of many lined-up activities that they will undertake throughout this year as their institution’s cooperate philanthropy.
The charity package presented to the persons with disability at the POPDA camp included food and non-food items worth millions of Leones.
General Manager told his audience at the POPDA camp that despite the huge challenges the hospitality industry is currently faced with they have deferred such odds and maintained high standards that meet international standards which included the addition of recreational facilities.
The hotel, Cyril concluded has played a consistent role in offering short-term jobs, skills training, and provision of helpful equipment to small and medium hospitality outlets, as well as paying school fees for less privileged children within and without Makeni.
“We want to ensure that Dr. Kanu’s legacy of giving back to society remains alive” GM said.
Founder and Director of the Association, Mathew Tholley, expressed happiness and thanked the hotel’s administration for the gesture.
“The gesture is timely and most of our daily means of survival depends on street begging” Mathew said.
He challenged other institutions within the municipality and beyond to emulate Wusum hotel’s example of shifting the celebrations budget from fanfare to charity.
Mr. Tholley urged Sierra Leoneans to celebrate Dr. Vincent Kanu’s legacies through patronage to his investments.
