The organization on 30th November 2019 will officially launch at Elly’s Inn conference hall, Femi Turner Drive, Goderich with the theme: ‘Science and Mathematics in National Development; the Youth Involvement.’
According to the Country Director of Youth Care Foundation, Ing. Jegede Joseph, Mathematics and Science are the substratum of any country’s development and to achieve that, the foundation must be established within the schools. He therefore called on all invited guests to join him in this history making event. Expected guests would come from the Ministry of Education, Directorate of Science and Technology, German, French, Nigerian and Ghana embassies, UNESCO, Science Club of Fourah Bay College, Njala University and the National Directorate of STEM among others. Mr. Jegede requested all expected guests to make it a point of duty to attend and on time.
He emphasized that the expected outcome of the launch ceremony is to create awareness that Mathematics is a fun subject that can take any country to great height; especially when a country begins to interact with other countries in a global context, which will expose and capacitate students with broader knowledge in Mathematics and Science.
He raised the hopes of Sierra Leonean students saying that in the near future Sierra Leone will produce professional young mathematicians and scientists who will represent the country in the International Mathematics Olympiad (IOM) which is a world championship competition for high school students from all around the world.
According to him, he has been participating in this program with representatives from other countries and that he would therefore want Sierra Leone to make use of the opportunity which will impact positively on students and the country as a whole.
The Youth Care Foundation will also create the platform for teachers to learn more in the Mathematics Teachers Enrichment Program (MTEP) which will capacitate teachers to be better equipped in teaching Mathematics and Science.
